Gude!
I’m Audrey, an American who moved to Germany several years ago, and I’ve learned some things along the way.
In this blog are some of those things.
What's This All About?
Having been in Germany for close to a decade now, I have figured some things out when it comes to immigration and settling in a new country. I’ve also become very aware of what I don’t know, and how to become more comfortable over time with that feeling of uncertainty.
What was supposed to be a short-term 9 month stay, has since turned into what feels like a semi-permanent life change of living in a different country. There was no linear progression into staying so long, and many opportunities for patience, growth, exploration and new boundaries happened along the way.
I’ve done my best to gather up my lessons learned through this blog, both as my journal and as a resource for others.
How Do I Spend My Time?
This blog gets neglected often, and this is because I generally have one or a few things going on. Or I just really don’t have that creative spark goin’ on.
I pay my bills (mostly keeping TheCats satisfied at a level of living to which they are accustomed) by working as a project & accounts manager at a creative design agency (read: marketing). This is an industry I fell into shortly after moving to Germany, and I love it.
If I’m not working, I’m probably involved with some church volunteer activity or the other, either locally or Europe-wide.
And when not doing either of the above, I am roaming around Wiesbaden, the Rheingau, Germany in general and, pre-covid, around Europe. As life really began to open up again in 2022, it’s been fun exploring and getting out of the house again.
I’m always happy to answer questions on immigration, general German rules or laws, cultural themes, Star Trek captains, proper Wasser-Wein proportions in a Schorle, or anything else top of mind. Send me a note or leave a comment on an article and I’ll get back to you!
